1900: A Shortcut to Round Lake

As the Little Bonnechere River winds its way to Round Lake, its course often curves back on itself, creating sharp bends known as oxbows. Around the turn of the last century, the river took a shortcut and completely abandoned one of these bends. One hundred years later where once a river flowed, sits a u-shaped wetland home to countless frogs and turtles.
