Photograph of window artifacts from Basin Depot 2000

Basin Depot 2000 - Window

Our artifact summary for Basin Depot indicates that window glass was the most highly recovered artifact at the site. It is tempting to dismiss such an apparently common material, after all a broken window can result in hundreds of sherds.

Concentrations of window glass might however indicate the location of windows within a structure, or possibly cabinets with pane glass such as clock cases and china cupboards. Each piece should be examined to determine its source. Several fragments from a clock case were recovered. Earlier glass had more imperfections than pieces of later manufacture.
