Photograph of miscsellaneous artifacts from Basin Depot 2000 door key

Basin Depot 2000 - Miscellaneous

This catch-all includes a slate pencil, a clock key, a composition pipe stem meant to be attached to a burl bowl, a substantial key for a special lock, a clay marble and an amber coloured glass bead. These assuredly belong to a domestic site and speak to family life. The pipe was the latest thing at the turn of the century, quite a step up from the common clay pipe of earlier days

Clay marbles were eventually replaced by glass, slates by pencil and paper. Substantial keys which exuded an air of security were being replaced with smaller flat cut steel keys and their locks by last decade of the 19th century.
