1882: Dennis McGuey

"[Dinny McGuey] was a good, big, stout fellow, and he was bald-headed, pretty fair."
—Mary Garvey

Fluent in English and French, Dennis McGuey ran a farm and stopping place at Bridgedam, beginning in 1882. Like many of his time and place he held various jobs to support his wife and nine children, including Henry and Hannah. He earned money by trapping, jobbing, operating dams, mining and fire-ranging.

The McGueys also proved their worth many times to the McLachlin Lumber Co., especially during the diphtheria epidemic of 1892 when a hospital was set up in Basin Depot.
