1950: Hurling Down the Hemlock

The Omanique Mill, operating on Beaverdam Lake from 1949 to 1965, was the last industrial use of the Little Bonnechere. The mill cut pine and hardwoods as well as large quantities of hemlock, which grew in abundance upriver. Once much more common, hemlock stands have been slow to recover from this and earlier logging.
